• Tour of East Bay and Dim Sum

I would hardly call this winter… no rain, a slight bit of “cold” in the mornings… nothing but sun and warmth in between.  Not complaining, and it made for a great opportunity for a great short tour of the east bay.  Starting here in the east by at 11am, Hannah and I biked to Oakland, had Dim Sum at Chinatown, then biked out to Lake Merritt, looked at some Bonzai Trees, then back up Broadway to Rockridge, then back home on the Ohlone Greenway.  All in All, a great 20 Mile ride.

See the full route and elevation map (thank you MapMyRun.com) in the full post…

What a great way to start the year.

  • Biking to Work Works Again

Due to some work related monkey business, I found a very convenient excuse not to bike to work for the last 2 months.  Yes, indeed.  Fortunately, that excuse has acquired a mode of transport thereby releasing me of my workly obligations.  Hurray!  So what does that mean?  It means I can restart biking to work.  Which, after 2 months, is more accurately just start biking to work.

It is a lot colder than it was a few months ago.  It will probably rain.  But that’s ok.  Just so that I’m not completely restarting from scratch, I’m going to learn from my previous experiences and make my work biking a lot better.

  • A New Year and A New Focus

With the new year will bring a shift in focus for what I’ve now come to realize is not so much a one time trek around the around with me as a human battery of sorts, but rather a much more personal quest to find myself.

So to help ring in the new year and this goal to make the necessary transformations to get me from now to then, QuixoticQuest.com will be going through a redesign.

  • Giving Without Receiving

My cousin Ryan, brother to my sister in law, is an interesting guy.  He’s a clear example of “Good” or “Virtuous” being wrapped in a rough and tumble body.  To anyone who doesn’t know him, it’s easy to let one’s prejudices pass judgement on Ryan as an intimidating tough street wise guy.  But then after just a few moments after getting to know him, you discover that he is indeed a tough street wise guy - only one with a warm heart and many other qualities which a lot of us can learn from.

So why am I singing his praises?  Well, that’s because two years ago, I said something (without really realizing what I was saying as I was saying it) that has been bothering me since.  And it’s not until just this past week that another conversation with my boss at my company’s employee appreciation party did I realize how really wrong I was.

  • Bike Across America

One milestone that my good friend Steve suggested I made was to simply Bike Across America.  I’ve found a nice website about a guy who’s done just that… both self financed and donation financed.  If nothing else, his tips and stories makes the grander trip seem more plausible and doable.

    http://bikeacrossamerica.org/

Over the next couple of week to restructure this website so that it focuses on milestones.  They will include (but aren’t limited to):

    • Bike across America
    • Sail to Hawaii
    • Set up Donations
    • Find Causes I Care About
    • Market and Shamelessly Ask for Donations

  • Preoccupied With Nothing

I’ve been distracted with work lately, and for some reason have allowed it to dominate my decisions for the last few months.  Having realized this, I’m going to derail this pesky trend and get back on track.

  • Uncompromising

What would the world be like if we were all uncompromising with our hopes and dreams?

  • Back to Just Me

Without going too much into detail, it looks like this quest of mine will continue by myself alone, albeit at a slower pace.  It may also serve this endeavor well to re-access priorities and goals.
